Bottega Veneta Weaving Light
Marking the fifth anniversary of its opening, the Bottega Veneta Omotesando Flagship presents Bottega Veneta Weaving Light, a special presentation by Venice-based Japanese glass artist Ritsue Mishima.
Selected from Venice and Kyoto, the presentation features eight works, including a site-specific work commissioned especially for the occasion and four vases available for purchase. The glass artworks create a dialogue between materiality and light, bringing a piece of the house’s Venetian artisanal heritage to Tokyo. The commissioned work, entitled Komorebi – a word that describes sunlight filtering through leaves – draws inspiration from the architecture of the Omotesando Flagship, designed by Toyo Ito, and the light that fills the space.
Reflecting on her relationship with the house, Mishima describes Bottega Veneta's signature leather craftsmanship as embodying "a constant spirit of challenge." She sees the house's woven pieces as defined by unexpected material exploration, a sensibility that resonates with her own creative approach to glass as she seeks forms that have not yet been seen.
